Stirchley stabbing – man arrested

A man has been arrested this morning by detectives investigating a serious assault on a woman in a Stirchley car park on Monday. 33 year old Leon Harrison handed himself in at a Birmingham police station at around 10.30 am.

Officers continue to investigate the stabbing of a 31 year old woman which happened outside the Fitness First gym on Pershore Road at around 2pm on Monday. The mum-to-be, who is in the early stages of pregnancy, was taken to hospital with multiple stab wounds. She underwent surgery and remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

Despite news of the arrest, officers are still keen to speak to the driver of a blue Renault vehicle who was leaving the car park as the attack happened. Detective Inspector Justin Spanner thanked those who have helped with the enquiry but added “We will continue to investigate the circumstances around the incident and continue to appeal for information.”
