The competition saw 400 pupils from schools across the West Midlands enter their creative T-shirt designs for the chance to feature on Cure Leukaemia’s T-shirt’s for Free Radio’s Walk for Kids in Birmingham. The walk is the first of a series of charity walks taking place during the summer with the aim of raising over £750,000 for selected local charities.

Cure Leukaemia, which supports blood cancer patients across the region, is one of three charities that Free Radio is supporting for this year’s Birmingham walk on Sunday 19 May. Jade’s winning design will now be worn by walkers to further inspire them as they trek up to 26 miles around the city’s Number 11 Circle bus route to help raise funds for Cure Leukaemia’s ground-breaking campaign, Cure Leukaemia for Kids. The £1million campaign will support Birmingham Children’s Hospital with child leukaemia research and funding for new drug trials.

Jade was interviewed by Free Radio about her winning design, which was chosen by Cure Leukaemia because of its fun and creative style. Her design incorporated the Cure Leukaemia and Free Radio colours as well as the signature Walk for Kids footprints. As part of her prize, Jade is now looking forward to being taken on a tour of the Free Radio studio with her teacher and taking her whole class out for a trip to Cadbury World.

Jade said: “I’m so happy that I was chosen as the winner of the competition and I’m looking forward to see Cure Leukaemia’s walkers wearing my T-shirt design on the day. It was so exciting to be interviewed like a real celebrity and I can’t wait to visit the Free Radio studio. My class are all really looking forward to going to Cadbury World too.”

James McLaughlin, CEO of Cure Leukaemia, said: “We wanted our T-shirts for the walk to look fun and quirky and create something that would hopefully keep a smile on everyone’s face. For the team and I, Jade’s design does just that and we’re proud to have it representing Cure Leukaemia for Kids during our tenth anniversary year.”
