This year sees the tenth anniversary of Birmingham’s free Galleries Night and Art Bus.
Year on year the popularity of the event has grown, with the bus now visiting six of the city’s leading galleries throughout the evening. This spring’s event takes place on Thursday 16 May, 5pm – 9pm with free entry at each of the participating galleries: the Barber Institute of Fine Arts, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, Eastside Projects, Ikon Gallery, mac birmingham, and the RBSA Gallery.
Aboard the Art Bus, staff and volunteers from each venue will welcome guests, highlighting the artists and exhibits at each site. With such an eclectic mix of galleries, audiences will have an opportunity to explore something new or re-discover an old favourite, as the wide range of historical and contemporary art is brought to life by free guided tours. Due to popular demand, this year’s route has changed to maximise the enjoyment of visitors. Each bus will take in three of the galleries, with Ikon Gallery in Brindley Place acting as the central ‘depot’ for the evening.

It’s a showcase of diverse art with something for everyone and also a great opportunity for visitors working across the city to enjoy a taste of what’s on offer, at galleries they might not otherwise visit.’
Birmingham’s free Art Bus event is run as part of ‘Museums at Night’, a nationwide annual festival of arts, culture and heritage, with over 400 museums, galleries, heritage sites and historic buildings taking part, opening their doors after hours to the general public. ‘Museums at Night’ is coordinated by Culture 24.
