New look for the World’s oldest press club

Birmingham Press Club, the oldest of its kind in the world, has given itself a face-lift – with a new logo and a vibrant new website.

Designed and developed by Press Club director Steve Price, the website (www.birmingham-press-club.co.uk) was launched today (March 15) in conjunction with a new membership drive.

Heart FM breakfast presenter Ed James, who is Chairman of the Press Club, said: “The media industry is constantly changing and it’s vital that we move with the times. Our website now not only looks amazing but is now fully functional. Together with our new logo, we aim to ensure that the club, with a long history of tradition stretching back almost 150 years, remains relevant in a changing media landscape.”

He added: “Members can now book tickets for all Press Club events, get the latest news and find out what’s happening in the world of media. There’s an exciting fresh look and feel to the website, which comes at a time when we are also seeking to extend our membership base by introducing a special corporate membership category.”

Steve Price, who is founder-director of Birmingham-based digital agency One Black Bear, commented: “Users will find the site much easier to search and navigate. Members will also have the additional benefit of their own updatable Press Club Profile plus the ability to browse the current membership via a secure Members Directory area, acting as a ‘who’s who’ of Midlands media – something we know is going to build into a valuable resource.”

The new website introduces online payment. Membership of the Club is free to working journalists but those other valued supporters of the Club who pay for their membership can now do so online. Event tickets can also be purchased using the site.

Alma Aganovic, Executive Director of Marketing and Student Services at Bournville College, the Press Club’s main sponsor, said: “The site is much improved and I am sure will be a hit with everyone who uses it.”

Meanwhile, the Club is currently planning the Midlands Media Awards – an annual event that rewards the achievements of the region’s top journalists, broadcasters, photographers and bloggers. This year the Awards, being sponsored by Birmingham Airport, are being held in Birmingham on June 13.
