Baggies Bouncing Along

Terry Wills reports on happenings at the Hawthorns.

West Bromwich Albion HawthornsOnwards and upwards or simply a holding process?

That was the question on the minds of Albion fans following the victory against Sunderland – an enjoyable game that gathered three points and improved our position in the table.

Conversely right up to the final whistle the Mackems large contingent of noisy, enthusiastic supporters must have felt that they were still in with a chance of snatching a point especially as a few seconds earlier they conveniently managed to miss an absolute sitter!

It was a competent all round display and with Yourself Mulumbu and Claudio Yacob back in tandem there was a return to the degree of midfield solidarity that had been so obviously and sadly missed. But towering head and shoulders over everyone was Romelu Lukaku. He displayed 90 plus minutes of unceasing, non-stop running, aggression, and strength that left all opponents trailing in his wake. Well done one and all.

The win and a continuation of ‘points gathering could yet see Albion strongly competing for a crack at European football next season. Whether they’d be strong enough would depend on which players either left or were recruited – only time will tell.

This week’s Greed League match is away at the home of the club that spawned the title…Chelsea. Prospects? Obviously they’ll start firm favourites but who knows if Chris Brunt can continue his recent back to best form best we may come away with a result. Sadly there will be no Lukaku to terrorise his parent club but providing his replacement – Peter Odemwingie? – or fortune are at their best the Pensioners could be in for a shock.

Note the word COULD!
