Simon Chadwick, Professor of Sport Business Strategy and Marketing at Coventry Business School, will discuss the nature and development of the sport industry, assess some of its most significant challenges and set out proposals to ensure its future sustainability and continued prosperity.

Professor Chadwick’s lecture follows his appearance at a major international sports conference in December 2012, the inaugural Doha GOALS sports forum in Qatar, where he shared a platform with sporting luminaries such as Oscar Pistorius, Lord Sebastian Coe, Carl Lewis and Ian Thorpe.

Simon’s January lecture will build on the themes that were explored at the Doha forum – the governance of sport, its commercial development and links with global corporations, and the role it plays in people’s lives all over the world.

As the legacy of London 2012 takes shape, Professor Chadwick’s lecture provides a timely analysis of the worldwide power and influence of sport.

Professor Chadwick said: “2012 was an immense year for sport and in the UK we’ve witnessed first hand its phenomenal cultural, economic and social impact.

“Sport’s influence extends across international borders however and it plays a major role in communities around the world. But as a global business it faces a number of organisational challenges and I’ll be tackling some of these issues at this forthcoming lecture in January.”

Simon’s presentation is the fourth in a series of professorial lectures, which draw on the expertise of academics from Coventry University and cover a range of diverse topics.

All the lectures are free and open to the public, and take place from 4pm at the TechnoCentre, Coventry University Technology Park.
