The Public in West Bromwich is inviting budding comedians from across the Midlands to step up to the microphone, and take part in a unique comedy showcase, with the opportunity to win a £100 cash prize!

#HashTagFunny which takes place at the West Bromwich venue on Friday 1 February 2013, will give ten lucky aspiring comics the opportunity to perform in front of a packed house as they battle it out to become comedy’s next big thing.

Alongside the cash prize, the comic who impresses the panel of judges most will be given a stepping stone on to the comedy circuit by being given support slots to touring comics at the West Bromwich venue.

Throughout the evening’s entertainment audience members will be encouraged to interactively participate in the show using social media platform, twitter.  A unique addition to the night of comedy, at set times the audience will be able to take to their mobile phones and join in the conversation using the show’s twitter tag.

#HashTagFunny launches The Public’s highly anticipated 2013 comedy season.  Over the next few months the Black Country venue will welcome some of the finest established and upcoming comics on the circuit.  The star studded new programme will feature award winning comedians Robin Ince (18 May), Lucy Porter (17 April) and Shazia Mirza (15 February), with co-host of Frank Skinner’s Absolute Radio Show, Alun Cochrane, heading up a new monthly comedy club, ‘Sit Down, Stand Up’ in association with Avalon Promotions, on 1 March.
