Brooklyn-based singer and songwriter Ingrid Michaelson is rarely recognised in person. Image has never been her priority, but she has earned enviable name-recognition thanks to her knack for crafting beautiful, idiosyncratic songs such as The Way I Am (which sold over a million copies), Maybe and Keep Breathing.

Her music has been used for TV programmes Grey’s Anatomy and One Tree Hill, various films and numerous advertisements. Cheryl Cole also gained a top five hit with her cover of Michaelson’s Parachute.

Often cited alongside other cerebral female pop artists such as Fiona Apple, Kate Havnevik and Regina Spektor, she is quite adeptly described by BBC as ‘lyrically deep and musically adventurous. Michaelson has it all’.
