The sell-out comedy night with a fabulous all-female line Up. Wed 5th Sept	Kieran Halpin					8pm (Doors 7.30pm)
Since 1979 Kieran Halpin has recorded 18 albums, one live DVD and published 2 songbooks with 50 songs in each book. He is a successful songwriter with many of his songs covered by other artists such as Ilse De Lange(All The Answers), Vin Garbutt, Dolores Keane( Too Long Away, Sister and Brother), Other Roads, Geraldine McGowan, Tom McConville, Niamh Parsons(The Old Simplicity), The Battlefield Band, Flossie and the late John Wright. In fact his songs are performed in clubs, pubs and concert halls throughout the world. Some have also been translated into German, Finnish and Spanish! He has recorded albums in his native Ireland, Scotland, London, Nashville, Oxford and Sydney.Whilst his albums are always something to look forward to it is live on stage where Halpin makes his mark. Powerful and passionate, intimate and intense, he is impossible to ignore. His voice has such an edge to it that he sounds like he is living every song. He has managed to marry his intelligent and thought provoking lyrics with great melodies and has developed over the years into a writer with a style all his own. All of this is underscored by an incisive wit in his introductions which helps an audience to understand where the song comes from and hint at where it might be going.

Traditional music sessions take place in pubs all over the city but traditional singing is also alive and well.  Here’s a chance to sing and listen to traditional songs in a friendly and informal environment. Admission is free, donations are welcomed.

In the wake of the long-awaited new edition of his Jacques Brel biography, Clayson Sings Chansonl is a presentation whose origins lie in 1999’s acclaimed Ne Me Quitte Pas: A Celebration Of Jacques Brel, an all-star album on which Alan Clayson’s contributions were highlights, attracting rave notices such as “hugely entertaining., Jacques would’ve approved” (Rock ‘N’ Reel [R2]); “everything here is pretty much equal to the doomed romanticism that was Brel’s trademark” (Record Collector) and “a complex emotional landscape of understated dynamics and dark aesthetics”(Folk On Tap). Embracing linking narrative as well as chanson, this will appeal to both Brel devotees and those interested generally in Gallic culture. Prior to his renown as a music historian, Alan Clayson was popular in the late 1970s as leader of the legendary Clayson and the Argonauts (who reformed in 2005) and has since become “one of the more extraordinary figures to emerge from rock ‘n’ roll” (The Independent).  See www.alanclayson.com.

Alasdair Roberts is a Scottish singer, guitarist, interpreter of traditional songs and writer of new songs based in Glasgow, Scotland. Since 1996 he has worked with Drag City Records of Chicago, releasing three albums of original material under the name Appendix Out as well as five albums under his own name, featuring both original and traditional material. Christine McMahon performs Goosewing. The old woman is nearing her end and she reflects on an ever-growing sense of uselessness, then an old goose wing jolts memories of darker times when she was young and forced to face the darkness.  A desperate young girl gives her hope but also the need to face her darkest fears.  Can she conquer them a second time? Christine McMahon is an exceptional storyteller from Yorkshire who is an engaging and humorous performer with a great talent for drawing audiences into her thoughtful and often witty stories.  Food Served from 6.30, Stories start at 7.30.
