The award, totalling £240,000, is from the Arts Council’s Catalyst Arts fund, which aims to assist cultural organisations in diversifying income streams and accessing funding from private sources.

The award – given over a three year basis – allows Ikon to build capacity and promote match funding from private donors.

It will provide the basis for Ikon 50, the fundraising platform celebrating Ikon’s 50th anniversary in 2014.

Debbie Kermode, Deputy Director, Ikon Gallery: “This new award is a tremendous boost to Ikon. We are always seeking new methods of ensuring our sustainability as an educational charity, and the Catalyst award allows us to consolidate our fundraising and development activity over a long term basis. We thank Arts Council England for their support.”

The £30 million Catalyst Arts: capacity building and match funding scheme is funded jointly by the DCMS, Heritage Lottery Fund and Arts Council England. Grants of between £120,000 and £240,000 were awarded to 173 organisations across the UK, 18 of whom are based in the West Midlands region.
