Charity Commission public meeting to focus on good financial controls

The Charity Commission, the independent regulator of charities, is inviting charities, trustees and advisors to attend its next public meeting, which will include a discussion on financial controls in charities.

The event will be held in Birmingham on Thursday 24 May. During the first half the audience will hear from Charity Commission Chair, Dame Suzi Leather, and Chief Executive, Sam Younger, about the Commission’s work, including a question and answer session.

This will be followed by an update on the initial findings of the review programme undertaken by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales in partnership with the Commission.

The second half of the event will focus on financial controls in charities, with National Fraud Authority Chief Executive, Stephen Harrison, providing an overview of the latest charity sector fraud statistics. Attendees will also hear from the Commission about its new strategy for tackling fraud and financial crime. The event will end with a wider discussion around these issues.

The meeting, which is free to attend, is taking place at the Birmingham and Midland Institute, 9 Margaret Street, Birmingham B3 3BS between 2pm – 5pm.
