Throughout January, residents were encouraged to take their unwanted trees to a HRC for recycling rather than throwing them away with their household rubbish. The trees have been reused by being either chipped for paths or shredded for composting.

Over 420 tonnes of green waste was collected throughout January for which Veolia Environmental Services donated £5 for every tonne.

The cheque was presented to Jane Britton, County Manager at The Royal British Legion by the Lord Mayor of Birmingham Anita Ward and Mark Heesom, General Manager at Veolia Environmental Services.

Jane Britton, County Manager for The Royal British Legion said, “We work with the ex-service community on a range of projects in Birmingham and this generous donation will really help us to assist those in need.”

Mark Heesom said ‘The Royal British Legion is an excellent charity and we are pleased to have raised so much money for our veterans and their families. Thanks to the residents recycling their trees we have been able to help make a real difference.’
