With Father’s Day fast approaching, there are only days left for everyone to show their Dads just how much they love them.

Now Birmingham can help fathers get fit, save time and save money thanks to bike maintenance and repair workshops from British Cycling.

British Cycling has teamed up with former GB Head mechanic, Spike Taylor, and his Pro Tool School, giving fathers – as well as females and any level of cyclist – a chance to learn how to keep a bike fit to ride.

Workshops are coming to Birmingham on 15 and 16 July, with more advanced levels on 28 and 29 October, part of a nationwide roll-out of workshops in 17 cities across the UK over the next few months.

Peter ‘Spike’ Taylor is the man responsible for keeping Olympic champion Sir Chris Hoy’s wheels turning in Beijing.

He has repaired and maintained bikes for Britain’s most successful elite athletes including the likes of Mark Cavendish and Nicole Cooke and was once described by Total Bike Maintenance and Repair magazine as ‘the world’s best bike mechanic’.

Spike said: “These workshops are a great idea for Father’s Day if you’re stuck for ideas.

“They’re designed to teach anyone who rides a bike some fun and easy tricks and techniques and give them the confidence to do the job themselves, saving them time and money.”

Beginner half-day workshops are aimed at new cyclists with little or no experience in maintaining a bike.

Participants can expect a gentle introduction to bike anatomy, riding position, puncture repair, brake and gear maintenance as well as oiling, cleaning and component care.

More experienced cyclists can look forward to the Advanced Workshop, rolling out for the first time in October in Birmingham and Manchester.

Workshops are designed to be fun, hands-on and open to cyclists of all ages and abilities.

Cyclists need not worry about bringing their own kit, as bikes and tools are provided.

Anyone who registers for a workshop will automatically receive British Cycling Ride membership worth £24.

Places can be booked by visiting goskyride.com or contacting British Cycling on 0161 274 2049.
