Budding West Midlands filmmaker launches crowdfunding campaign

Fundraiser aims to finance new film project and support arts industry.

Sam Turner, a Midlands-based film writer and director has launched an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign to help bring to life his latest film.

Point Five is a light-hearted comedy that tackles a number of real life social issues with the ultimate message being that everyone should do their bit to help the environment. The short film is based in the streets featuring real British characters in relatable situations with the overall look and feel of a gritty urban drama.

Having been furloughed Sam has worked throughout the global pandemic to write and develop the script, audition actors, and source a producer, editor and crew. Sam and his production team, a group of budding filmmakers, have invested as much money, time and resources as they possibly can and are now asking for help from the public to dig deep in their pockets to support this independent film.

What’s more, by contributing to the campaign you can bag yourself a spot on the crew, be credited as one of the producers, receive exclusive access to come on set of the shoot or even have an appearance in the film!

Sam and his team have estimated that an additional £1,000 will make a significant difference and all funds raised will contribute to hiring additional crew, securing film locations, transport costs and equipment.

Sam said: “I want to make films that make people laugh whilst tackling real topics and this is exactly what we hope to accomplish with Point Five. The past year in particular has been so unsettling and a difficult time for many in the film community especially with many freelancers working alone.

“We know that times are tough financially for most at the moment but any small donation for this film could help get a number of talented young filmmakers working again and feeling positive about their future career prospects in the industry.”

Still in the early stages of his career, Sam has already produced a number of award-winning short films including ‘Hush Hush’ that premiered at the second annual Brave Blackbird Film Festival in Wolverhampton.
