Transfer travesties

Andy Munro wonders what’s going on at St Andrews.

So. Blues have jettisoned David Davis and Maikel Kieftenbeld, probably the only two players – with maybe the exception of the out of favour Juke – who in the current squad would bleed blue blood. More talented players are failing to deliver, hence our struggles, and most fans would prefer to play the few players that give their all.

On the incoming transfer front we’ve signed yet another midfielder on loan. There have been no much-needed additions to our forward line apart from a young Spanish forward who was on Barcelona’s books but never played for them. He is probably destined to join a long line of failed Spanish prospects (or should that be flops?) with the notable exception of Ivan Sanchez.

No doubt if Aitor Karanka fails, as seems likely at the moment, he will blame lack of investment so to put that fallacy to bed I’ve looked at the ‘investment’ in a comfortably placed Preston side who beat us recently.

Daniel Iversen; loan; Alan Browne; free; Ben Davis; free; Paul Huntingdon; free; Ben Whiteman; £1.5 million; Andy Hughes; £750,000; Ryan Ledson; £750,000; Jayson Molumby; loan; Scott Sinclair; free; Brad Potter; £1.45 million; Cemil Jackobsen; £1.2 million. That’s a grand total of £5.7 million, which is substantially less than the total fees paid for Messrs Colin, Deane, Roberts, Hogan, Sunjic, Sanchez and the Juke, which certainly total over well over three times that amount.
