The great Birmingham City manager-go-round

Andy Munro talks about the St Andrews situation now vacant.

As is the way of the world at the moment, the search for the next Blues manager is all a bit virtual, as names are randomly tossed into the ring like the start of the ultimate swingers party.

In truth, it now seems that the board are waiting to see what division we will be playing in next season by keeping on Craig Gardner and Steve Spooner for what may be a self-fulfilling prophecy.

So which names are being bandied around? One or two foreign managers have been mooted but let’s face it, they will both cost and want a decent war chest to work with. Which leads us on to English managers.

I don’t fancy Blues being a third choice for Chris Hughton. Robbie Fowler also doesn’t do it for me. He’s cocky, inexperienced and likely to jump ship if the going got tough or he got a better offer. Even Lee Bowyer is looking more doubtful, given the tactless disclosures just before we play Charlton.

That leaves Nigel Clough, who is used to making a silk purse out of a sow’s ear so he’s probably the one I would favour. Mind you, I loved things under mad Bazza Fry so I wouldn’t be heartbroken if we got Ian Holloway, who has previously professed his love for the Blues.

But for now, it’s the waiting game!
