Andy Munro wanders down Blues’ memory lane – or should that be Dead End Street?

Social media is awash with bored football fans picking their best XIs so here is the opposite. In fairness, these are players who weren’t necessarily the worst Blues players ever but are players who came with a great CV but were desperately disappointing or just desperate.

THOMAS MYRHE: allegedly a Norwegian international, he came from Everton with a great pedigree but was about as dependable as an off-form Gary Sprake.
ALBERTO TARANTINI: Argentinian World Cup star whose appearances were marred by bookings and sending-offs, never mind being caught for shoplifting.
TYLER BLACKETT: A supposed Manchester United starlet whose posing on the ball was soon cut short.
PABLO IBANEZ: Signed from Athletico Madrid but was anything but athletico with a turning circle of one of Eddie Stobart’s finest.
JOHANN DJOROU: A supposed Arsenal starlet and Swiss international who was about as solid as one of his country’s fondues.
JESPER GRONKJAER: One of our marquee signings but this Chelsea signing ended up more of a tent.
ANDERS LIMPAR: Another big name, he was signed from Everton but at the Blues he couldn’t play footie for toffee.
CHEIKH N’DOYE: A typical Harry Redknapp signing from Africa but unlike Papa Diop this giant ‘wardrobe’ was about as solid as an MFI flatpack.
RICKY OTTO: Unplayable at Southend but not a winning number in Barry Fry’s footballing lottery game
CARLOS COSTLY: Came with an international pedigree but my nan could probably have got in the Honduran team.
MIKE NEWELL: One of Trevor Francis’s galactico signings but unfortunately his play and goal scoring prowess certainly weren’t out of this world.
