Over the past two years, ScanTech Digital working with Birmingham Museums Trust, National Trust and Canal & River Trust, Jewellery Quarter Development Trust and Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council, carefully captured several buildings using high-resolution photogrammetry and laser scanning

Despite closing for lockdown, these landmarks are now open virtually and available to visit using your PC or tablet, or you can use your VR headset for the full immersive experience.

Kate O’Connor Jewellery Quarter Townscape Heritage Activities Manager said: “The Townscape Heritage project have worked with ScanTech Digital to create this unique experience, allowing people to access the building virtually whilst learning about the functions of a typical twentieth century jewellery manufactory in the heart of the Jewellery Quarter.

“We have also incorporated oral history interviews from former employees of Alabaster & Wilson which are part our People’s Archive – they really help to bring the building to life! We are thrilled that this piece of Birmingham’s heritage has been captured in such detail, so that it can be learnt from and enjoyed by future generations.”
