Out Foxed

Blues go out of the FA Cup at Leicester, with Andy Munro watching.

Fair play to Blues and Pep as we mixed things up a bit by resting several key players and still gave a decent account of ourselves. It was good to see Kleftenbeld back although I still have reservations about Mrabti, the other returnee, in St Andrewsterms of his penetrative effect in the opposition box.

Jamie Vardy apart, Leicester probably played more of a first team squad than the Blues, the ineffective Demarai Gray excepted. However, I take no pleasure in calling him ineffective as he showed a lot of respect for his old club in prematch comments – hame this respect has not been shown by a long line of others, Roger Johnson and Matt Upson to name just a couple.

In the last twenty minutes, the potential for Leicester to score the defining goal was always there but when Blues threw the proverbial kitchen sink at the Foxes, the opposition looked vulnerable and one wonders what might have happened if we had been a bit braver, a bit earlier. Obviously without the injured and charismatic Bela and the mercurial Jude Bellingham, finding openings was always going to be hard work and physically draining.

However, a very creditable effort and now to use that overworked adage we can concentrate on the league. Let’s hope we have the energy left to do so.
