Roaring Twenties roars into town

Symphony Hall gets ready for some crooning magic from a century ago.

Ready for white tie and tails? And some old fashioned crooning? Then Max Raabe and his twelve-piece backing group may be just the ticket.

They hit Birmingham’s Symphony Hall on Thursday 5th March to entertain an audience ready for music from the time of Bing Crosby, Kurt Weill, Fred Astaire and a host of others.

The Berlin-based Palast Orchester will take everyone on a trip to the Roaring Twenties and beyond, a century on from what was an exciting new era for music, dance, style, and fashion.

The big selling band, fronted by crooner Max Raabe, are well-respected in Germany, having dominated the music charts for many years there while staying true to their old fashioned style.

They recently released a new MTV Unplugged album which went straight into the top ten in the German pop charts alongside Robbie Williams and Coldplay.

Set in a Weimar era nightclub, the show will feature music and songs including the Kurt Weill’s classic Mack The Knife; alongside standards including I Won’t Dance, Night And Day, and Sweet Sue.

Max Raabe explained:  “As a child, I completely fell in love with this music. My aim is to entertain the audience during the concert and transport them out of reality. The music was written to take the audience away from their everyday problems. And it still works today.”
