LoveBrum launches Christmas help the homeless campaign

Bags for Brummies aims to provide seasonal cheer.

Local charity LoveBrum has launched its popular Bags for Brummies initiative for the third year running to help make the colder months a little easier for the local homeless community.

To support those that need it most, the Birmingham-based charity is asking the general public to donate a selection of items to keep the homeless community warm this winter, including hats, gloves, scarves and a sleeping bag. Additional items that can also be given include a selection of toiletries, sweet treats and a £10 supermarket voucher to brighten up their day.

The donations will then be packed into bags and handed out at SIFA Fireside’s annual Christmas lunch, on 13 December.

As well as items for the bags, the charity would love to hear from individuals or organisations who can volunteer to pack them.

Last year, LoveBrum collected over 15,000 items and handed out more than 600 bags to those in need.

Paul Mitchell, Executive Director at LoveBrum, comments: “It’s our aim to help and support the homeless community as much as possible, especially at this festive time of year, and our Bags for Brummies campaign is a great way to be able to spread a little cheer during these dark and cold winter months.

“We were blown away by people’s generosity and the incredible donations last year, as well as the number of amazing volunteers that selflessly gave up their time to pack these bags; we’d love to go bigger and better in 2019, and we need everyone’s help to be able to do this.”

Andy Cliffe, chief executive of bag sponsor M6toll, said: “We are delighted to support Bags for Brummies again this year. We know that the winter months can be tough for those living on the streets, so we hope the bags can provide comfort this festive season.

“Our team will also be volunteering to help pack the bags we have sponsored, as we believe it is important to be fully involved in the projects we support.”

To get involved in LoveBrum’s Bags for Brummies initiative, sponsored by the M6toll and Zellig, donations can be sent to the Zellig Building reception, Gibb Street, Birmingham, B9 4AA from Monday to Thursday, 11.00am – 3.30pm, between 25th November and 11th December.
