I’m not sure what the opposite to ‘Home Sweet Home’ is but Blues definitely don’t travel well in terms of results. However, I take issue with a season ticket holder who phoned Radio WM to basically slag off Pep Clotet and make the point that he has only ever managed Oxford United, and even then for a short period of time. My retort is that Gary Monk is not the sort of guy to suffer fools gladly and his retention of Pep during his successful Blues tenure speaks volumes for the Spaniard.
In reality, if we hadn’t conceded a highly debatable penalty, we could probably have been home and hosed by half-time given the number of shots we had. Okay, we didn’t score when we had the chances during most of the game but it seems unfair to blame Pep for our inability to sign a pacey striker in the close season.
Obviously, we must hope that the board rectify that in the Xmas transfer window and, in the meantime, we need to keep within a few points of the play-off positions.
I’d also say that Blues are playing some of their best football in the last fifty-odd years. However, the downside to that is that without pace up front, the team have to work it from the back and really work hard to create those openings, often pulling a defensive midfielder like Sunjic into offensive positions. Couple that with the need to get our fullbacks forward to create the necessary width and this can leave us open to counters and the defence exposed. However, I think some Bluenoses need a reality check given our resources.
As far as I’m concerned, it’s a time to keep the faith and that includes with Senor Clotet!
