Birmingham promoters collaborate for UK jazz season

Best of British to be staged across the city.

Birmingham’s biggest underground music promoter, Leftfoot, is teaming up with THSH Jazzlines for a season celebrating the exciting renaissance of UK jazz.

Held across the Hare & Hounds in Kings Heath and The Crossing in Digbeth, the two promoters will welcome some of the biggest and most talented jazz musicians and outfits that the UK currently has to offer. Running from September to December 2018, the season welcomes the likes of drummer Yussef Dayes, keyboardist Kamaal Williams, producer and pianist Alfa Mist, saxophonist Soweto Kinch (pictured), as well as groups Sons of Kemet and Ezra Collective.

Leftfoot founder Adam Regan: “We’re absolutely delighted to be able to showcase the wonderful jazz talent that the UK currently has. The resurgence of jazz in the last few years has been so exciting, and we’re thrilled to finally bring this to Birmingham.

“The majority of these musicians are young, talented individuals that have taken influence from contemporary genres such as hip-hop, soul and Afrobeat and combined it with jazz to create a distinctive sound which perfectly captures and celebrates the culturally diverse country that we live in. It’s a movement which we are really proud and excited to be pushing in Birmingham.”

UK Jazz has seen a massive rise in both popularity and output over the last few years, and many of these artists have been praised by esteemed music publications such as Pitchfork for championing and pioneering a new wave of quality jazz music. Many felt that jazz was an archaic genre, but these artists are showing why that is definitely not the case with their highly unique and exciting performances and productions. Many of these artists are making Birmingham debuts, so do not miss out on this exciting opportunity to see them perform live.

Tickets for all events will be available via Skiddle, See Tickets and the THSH website.
