Chance for Sutton performers to shine

Sutton Coldfield welcomes return of Month of Music Festival.

Local stars, singers, and bands are being called upon to perform at Sutton Coldfield’s annual Month of Music Festival.

Following the huge success of last year’s inaugural event, the month-long celebration will return to various locations in the Royal Town this July, showcasing local talent with a packed calendar of performances and festivities.

Budding musicians are invited to take part in Month of Music in two ways, either by performing as part of the main event line-up in a town centre venue or competing in the Sutton Has Musical Talent competition.

To play at a town centre venue, performers should email a video and/or link to their website using the subject ‘play at venue’ and hopefuls looking to compete in Sutton Has Musical Talent competition on Saturday 7th July are encouraged to email a video and/or link to their website using the subject ‘SHMT’.

Artists shortlisted for Sutton Has Musical Talent will compete to be crowned winner in front of a live audience. The panel of judges will include representatives from the Sutton Observer, Sutton Coldfield Town Centre BID, The Gracechurch Centre and the long-established and well-loved local live music venue, the Three Tuns.

Last year’s competition winner Christie Reeves (pictured) will also be back to showcase new music after a massively successful year, which has seen her current single, Temptation reach the A-list on Brum Radio.

The competition is open to entrants in two categories, 13 to 18-year olds and those over 18. The winners will scoop a range of prizes designed specifically to help budding professional musicians, as well as a performance slot at July’s popular TunsFest.

Mike Bushell, Sutton Coldfield Town Centre BID Manager, said: “We are delighted to welcome the return of the Month of Music Festival for its second year. The Sutton Has Musical Talent competition provides the perfect platform for up and coming musicians in the local area. The inaugural event saw us blown away by the outstanding level of talent from applicants and fantastic reception by the public.

“We can’t wait to receive applications for both this year’s festival and Talent competition and are sure it’s going to be another unmissable month in Sutton Coldfield,” he added.

Applications for either part of the festival should submit their web link or video clip to [email protected]. The deadline for all entries is midnight on Friday 1st June 2018.
