Vote opens for Brindleyplace Film Festival

Will classics come out on top for this year’s choice?

It’s up to the public to decide if Brindleyplace will come alive with the Sound of Music at the ever popular, outdoor Film Festival this year, with the 1965 classic making the shortlist alongside Grease, Mary Poppins and modern hits La La Land and The Greatest Showman.

Taking place between 16th and 22nd July, nominations for the seventh annual Film Festival line-up are now open with the public faced with choosing between their favourite modern and classic films to be shown for free on the big screen.

Nathan Sanghera, Marketing and Events Executive at Brindleyplace, said: “With a classics vs modern theme, there’s something for everyone on this year’s shortlist, whether you love the epic romance of Casablanca and Breakfast at Tiffany’s or the epic battles of Guardians of the Galaxy and Black Panther.

“If family films are more your thing, there’s plenty to choose from this year. Take a trip down memory lane – and the yellow brick road – with The Wizard of Oz or catch up with everyone’s favourite super hero family, The Incredibles, ahead of the highly anticipated sequel this summer.

“Our Film Festival is completely free and it just keeps getting bigger! This year people have the chance to see some of the classic films they know and love on the big screen in Central Square, as well as modern new releases.

“Will classic cinema or modern movies make the final line-up? It’s up to you to decide, so put the dates in your diary and get voting!”

This year’s Film Festival will also see a series of short films by The Royal Society for Blind Children – one of the Brindleyplace charity partners – shown as trailers to raise awareness of the impact of sight loss on children’s lives. Various fundraising activities will also be taking place throughout the week including the arrival of an immersive van in Central Square.

The films with the most votes will be shown during the Film Festival, so to see the complete shortlist and vote for your favourite film visit

Voting closes on Friday 1st June and the full schedule of films will be announced shortly after.
