New development planned on the site of former college.
A 22 acre development site on the outskirts of Birmingham city centre has been sold to Barratt Homes.
The developer has planning approval to build 778 new homes on the site located off Bristol Street (A38)/St Luke’s on the site of the former Matthew Boulton College. The land has been sold by Birmingham City Council and Homes England who were advised by property services firm Cushman & Wakefield.
A planning committee approved plans for the site last month to include a mix of flats, houses, affordable housing, car parking and green spaces. The proposals were praised as, unusually for a city centre scheme, the development is to include almost 150 three-bedroomed houses.
Waheed Nazir, Chief Planning Officer for Birmingham City Council said: “It’s fantastic that the developer has adapted their plans and we welcome the revised designs. The improved mix of houses, flats, the on-site affordable housing and the additional green space included in the proposals is exactly the type of development that the city needs.”

Work is expected to start on site in summer 2018.
