Festival celebrates Women in Jazz

Centenary link to Birmingham Jazz promotion.

100 years on from the Suffragette movement, a varied and impressive bill with many jazz heavyweights will be celebrating the impact women continue to have on the world of jazz. The Festival of Legends, presented by Birmingham jazz, has the most exciting acts covering a wide range of sounds. All gigs are in the Jewellery Quarter, most in the intimate space of the 1,000 Trades bar with a couple in Saint Kitchen, the independent coffee house overlooking St Paul’s Square

This year’s Festival of Legends makes Birmingham Jazz’s contribution to the centenary celebrations of (for some) femaleeEmancipation. The Festival features the front line of Jazz Suffragettes. Today’s players demonstrate their own emotional journeys and those of the past – Celebrating Jazz Women. Each element of the festival will bring a woman performing jazz into focus.

Over the three days there will be ten gigs, featuring a variety of national bands and legendary names and the very best of local jazz talent.
