Expansion for Halesowen manufacturer Mapei

Bigger premises boost to company growth aims.

The world’s largest producer of adhesives and chemicals for the construction industry, Mapei has expanded its UK headquarters in the West Midlands.

Mapei UK has taken 9,660 sq ft of office space at Midland House at Coombswood Business Park in Halesowen. The building is located adjacent to the company’s existing state-of-the-art manufacturing facility on Steel Park Road.

The deal was completed by Cushman & Wakefield on behalf of the landlord, EH Smith and completed within three months of the previous occupier, BAM Construction vacating the building.

Midland House is a detached building, spread over two storeys and located 1.5 miles from Halesowen town centre. Mapei will be using the building as a training facility for its UK customer base.

David Rigby, Associate in Cushman & Wakefield’s Office agency team in Birmingham commented: “We are delighted to have secured such a high profile local occupier on behalf of our client. Midland House came on to the market at the end of November 2017 and as part of our initial marketing campaign we made a direct approach to Mapei about the opportunity due to the building’s close proximity to its existing facility.”

Neal Bestwick of EH Smith commented: “Letting the premises inside three months far exceeded our expectations, especially as we didn’t need to refurbish the space.”

Established in 1989, Mapei UK Ltd moved to the West Midlands in 1999, and in 2004 opened its Halesowen manufacturing plant. Midland House was also previously used by BAM Construction as a training facility and the acquisition will enable Mapei to relocate its training function from its current warehouse premises.
