Oxygen Freejumping joins forces with elite junior athletes

Local girls make inroads in fast-growing sport.

Oxygen Freejumping have created the first junior ambassador programme within Obstacle Course Racing, by joining forces with The OCR Girls.

The OCR Girls are a junior female team made up of three athletes already making their mark in the senior OCR ranks: Amelia Cocksedge, 16; Jess Cope, 14; and Evie Waring, 13. The support from Oxygen will help the team continue their rise in the world of OCR, with a contribution towards the cost of travel, kit, race entry and access to training.

Obstacle Course Racing is the fastest growing mass participation sport in the world with 5.8 million people worldwide expected to participate in 2018. Junior athletes make up a small proportion of the overall figures, however, the number of junior athletes is on the rise. The OCR Girls are leading the way, with Amelia, Jess & Evie currently representing Team UK at the World Championships in Canada.

Oxygen Freejumping, are the UKs biggest trampoline park operator with 9 sites and ambition to grow to 18 sites by the end of 2018. The partnership will help Oxygen to promote the benefits of physical activity, particularly among young females across all Oxygen sites.

The partnership will include promotion of Oxygen’s trampoline activities including trampoline fitness, trampoline coaching, and general freejumping sessions, as well as the Bear Grylls Fitness activity. The epic multi-level obstacle courses are all about building strength, flexibility and fitness to empower users to live adventures to the max. With up to 18 obstacles, each offering between 2-4 difficulty level options, the courses provide the perfect test & indoor training venue for OCR enthusiasts.

David Stalker, CEO Oxygen Freejumping said, “We are delighted to be supporting the girls to achieve their goals on the OCR circuit, whilst also promoting physical activity, particularly among kids. Amelia, Jess and Evie, are already competing and beating the best adult athletes, and we are sure they will inspire lots of other young boys and girls.

“At a time where obesity is at an all-time high, and there is a substantial drop off in physical activity levels among young people, these girls are getting involved in a sport which means you get muddy, your hair is wet and messy and are proving that they can still look strong, athletic and pretty cool with it.

“Oxygen is all about having fun and getting active with a smile on your face, but we’re also keen to help and support our customers to progress and develop their skills. We’re confident that this partnership will encourage both kids and adults to have a go whether it is our trampoline coaching and fitness classes, or training on the Bear Grylls Fitness course.

And for those that already participate in OCR, or want to take their fitness to the next level, we’ve got the perfect indoor training venue. Especially as the weather gets wetter, colder and darker!”

The OCR Girls added, “We are so excited to have the backing and support of Oxygen Freejumping as our main sponsor. This is a huge opportunity for us and we intend to do our best to promote physical activity and exercise whilst having fun, especially to children.

We have just returned from the World OCR Championships in Blue Mountain Resort, Canada and we can’t wait to start using Oxygen Freejumping and Bear Grylls Fitness facilities to enhance our training.”
