Midlands artist to exhibit at prestigious Birmingham show

Innovative artist wins opportunity to showcase alongside world names.

A local contemporary artist has been selected to have her work displayed throughout August in a prestigious gallery that regularly exhibits some of the art scene’s elite names.

Yorkshire-born and now residing in the West Midlands, 29-year-old Lucy Fiona Morrison has been selected for the UK’s leading fine art publisher Washington Green’s Summer Exhibition 2017. The exhibition follows a call for innovative visual artists to submit their work to a panel of top art reviewers.

The exhibition will take place from Saturday 29th July to Sunday 27th August at Castle Fine Art in Birmingham’s iconic International Convention Centre (ICC) and will see Morrison’s work presented alongside the likes of Bob Dylan, Ronnie Wood and Raphael Mazzucco – just some of the names represented by Washington Green.

In her gestural and expressive paintings Morrison explores colour, texture and form to depict British landscapes. The work features her own oil paint made with raw pigments giving an intense depth of colour.

Morrison is one of eleven creators chosen to take part in the show, and those featured are in with the chance of securing a publishing contract with the company.

Lucy Fiona Morrison said: “It’s an exciting opportunity to exhibit my work as part of the Summer Exhibition 2017. I feel lucky to have been selected to showcase my paintings in the heart of Birmingham. I look forward to seeing the viewers’ responses to my work; it’s always great to reach new audiences.”

Glyn Washington, founder and creative director of Washington Green, added: “Our Summer Exhibition is an opportunity for artists, who otherwise may not get the chance to exhibit publicly, to showcase their work in front of a wider audience. Our last two events attracted some of the finest talent working in contemporary art, so this year’s exhibition has a lot to live up to. Through a rigorous selection process we have put together a fantastic line up, and I’m confident that the Summer Exhibition 2017 could be our best yet.”

Washington Green’s Summer Exhibition 2017 will take place at Castle Fine Art, International Convention Centre, Birmingham, B1 2EA. For more information please see www.castlefineart.com
