Law firm raise funds for nominated charity

£42,000 raised in 2016 for leukaemia research.

The staff of Birmingham law firm Pinsent Masons raised over £42,000 for its office charity of the year Cure Leukaemia in 2016. The company was intent on hitting this fundraising total, as it is enough to fund one of Cure Leukaemia’s vital specialist research nurses for a year. Without the specialist research nurses the charity funds across the Midlands, blood cancer patients who have exhausted standard care for the disease would miss out on accessing potentially life saving drugs through clinical trials; many of which are world firsts.

Staff of the leading legal firm took part in a wide range of fundraising activities throughout the year including the Great Birmingham 10km, Cure Leukaemia’s London to Paris bike ride, the annual Pinsent Masons bike ride, skydives, cake and samosa sales, calendars and quiz nights.

Pinsent Masons Head of Office and Cure Leukaemia Trustee Greg Lowson said: “I am very proud of every single member of staff who played their part in helping us reach this fantastic fundraising figure for a very special charity. Professor Charlie Craddock and his team of nurses based at the Centre for Clinical Haematology and across the region are not only saving lives now but also hastening global progress towards effective treatments for all forms of blood cancer and so I am delighted that Pinsent Masons has helped fund one of these vital nurses for a whole year.”

Cure Leukaemia’s Chief Executive James McLaughlin added: “We are immensely grateful to the staff at Pinsent Masons for raising such a phenomenal figure in 2016. It is amazing what can be achieved when a whole workforce focus on a target and it was great to see the range of fundraising ideas and activities that helped reach this figure. I hope that other businesses in Birmingham will be inspired by this story and perhaps look to support us in our £1m appeal in 2017 to fund the expansion of the Centre to double its capacity for patients, trials and nurses.”
