Regional theatres combine to provide youth opportunities

Artrix Arts centre and Birmingham Rep join forces.

A collaborative project between Artrix Arts Centre in Bromsgrove and Birmingham Repertory Theatre will give young aspiring actors a unique chance to work with a professional theatre maker.

Artrix Young Rep, which is launching at Artrix in September, will enable 14-19 year olds to develop their acting, voice and improvisation skills. There will be performance opportunities at Artrix and The REP and participants will be able to create and produce contemporary theatre which is thought-provoking, vibrant and fun.

Hannah Phillips, Artrix’s Director said: “We are delighted to be partnering with The REP and offer this exciting training opportunity for young people in Bromsgrove who are serious about acting and performing. They will train with a REP Youth Theatre Director and have opportunities to perform at both Artrix and The REP.”

Steve Ball, Associate Director at the REP said: “The REP is committed to providing opportunities for young people from across the West Midlands to work with professional theatre makers to create and produce a broad range of high quality theatrical experiences. We are very excited about the opportunity to engage with young people in Bromsgrove and develop a working partnership between Artrix and The REP.”

Artrix Young Rep begins on Wednesday 21st September at Artrix. Sessions will take place weekly on Wednesday from 5 pm to 7 pm and will cost £110 per term. For further details and to book contact the box office on 01527 577330 or visit www.artrix.co.uk

Artrix has also just published its new autumn brochure and there are few surprises in store. As well as the usual comedy, music and films there will be a new dramatic writing course, a second Drive-In cinema event at Halloween and a Comedy with Cake event with Birmingham’s favourite comic housewife Mrs Barbara Nice.

Hannah Phillips, Artrix’s Director said “We’re offering an exciting and varied programme this season and there are plenty of new events and activities to enjoy. If you haven’t been to Artrix before then come and see us, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.”

Copies of the new brochure are available at Artrix and Bromsgrove Library and details of all forthcoming events can be found at www.artrix.co.uk
