Walk this way!

Bournville’s first discovery trail to launch next week.

An exciting new walking trail is to launch next week to encourage families to explore and enjoy some of Bournville’s beautiful parks and open spaces.

The Great Green Discovery Trail will take families across twelve different locations, from parks and recreation grounds to the gardens of a 14th century Tudor house. Organised by registered charity and housing association Bournville Village Trust, the self-guided Trail will be free to take part in and will run from 27th July to 30th August.

At each location, there will be special Trail boxes with free activities, from nature games and crafts to sports, and a code to complete the Trail map. Completed maps can be entered into a prize draw to win a year’s free Wildlife Trust family membership for Birmingham and the Black Country.

The Trail will be launched at a teddy bears picnic, organised by Busy Parents Network and Bournville Village Trust, at the Village Green, Sycamore Road, on Wednesday 27th July at 12pm.

Jessica Allan, Community Development Manager at Bournville Village Trust, said: “Bournville is well known for its many parks, recreation grounds and open spaces but this is the first time that we’ve put together a discovery trail. We hope it will encourage families to get out and about and enjoy the beautiful places on their doorstep over the summer holidays.

“Best of all the Trail is free, making it an affordable way to have some fun, keep the family entertained and boost health and wellbeing too.”

Sarah Mullen, Director of Busy Parents Network, added: “As parents, we are always on the lookout for cheap ways to keep our children entertained over the long summer holidays. We’re very pleased to recommend this trail and we especially like that there are several places to visit and that it is going on all summer long so you can do a bit each week if you’d like to.”

To accompany the Trail, a series of free events, aimed at supporting good health and wellbeing, will be held throughout July and August. Activities will range from outdoor exercise classes, including Tai Chi, to gardening workshops and circus skills classes.
