Still Waters

Weekend jazz in the Jewellery Quarter.

Birmingham Jazz will be presenting another quality line-up at the Red Lion on Friday.

Henry Lowther was the first Curator for the Birmingham Jazz Legends Festival in 2015, and this is his first return since that highly successful event. The composer andtrumpeter will perform alongside Pete Hurst on tenor sax, Barry Green on piano, Dave Green on bass and Paul Clarvis on drums. Expect to hear original compositions and dynamic free improvisation, with the occasional jazz standard thrown in.

Henry Lowther’s Still Waters was born of a long association and friendship, going back more than twenty years, between Henry and bassist Dave Green (Henry refers to his long time friend as“the Rolls Royce of bass players”). The band’s music is varied with original compositions by Henry and other band members, ranging from gentle melodic music which reflects the band’s name, through to dynamic free improvisation.

The result is an immediately classic band sound, with band members that grace any stage, stories from a lifetime of playing with the best and most varied of musicians possible – an irresistible mix.

Still Waters was chosen by the BBC to represent the UK at the 20th Umbrian Jazz Festival. They play The Red Lion UAB, Warstone Lane, Birmingham on Friday 1st July. Admission £12.50, members £10, students £5.
