Kings Heath BID begin Queen’s birthday celebrations

High Street lined with bunting to mark Almighty Blighty.

Kings Heath BID has lined Kings Heath High Street and beyond with handmade bunting to kick off a month of Almighty Blighty fun, starting with the Queen’s 90th Birthday celebrations last weekend.

Designed and decorated by local children, the red white and blue bunting adorned businesses windows last week, just in time for the royal celebrations, and will continue to add a touch of patriotism to Kings Heath throughout the summer, as part of Kings Heath BID’s on-going Almighty Blighty campaign.

Pupils from Kings Heath Primary School and Colmore Infant and Nursery School got creative over the May half term holidays decorating hundreds of bunting triangles to help transform the Birmingham suburb into a quintessential British neighbourhood, with local children also visiting Kings Heath businesses over the half term to join in the fun at free Almighty Blighty Bunting stations.

Organisers hope that Almighty Blighty, which will coincide with a summer of exciting national events such as the Queen’s 90th Birthday, the Euros and the upcoming Wimbledon tournament, will encourage members of the community to get out and about in Kings Heath and discover everything that Kings Heath has to offer.

Katy Stone, Kings Heath BID Manager, explains: “We often organise free fun for local families over the holidays, so it was great to see so many children get involved again and put so much effort into decorating their bunting over the half term. The bunting looks fantastic and will really brighten up the High Street throughout the summer, and we’re really pleased that so many local businesses have got into the spirit by hanging it in their windows!! Watch this space for more Almighty Blighty fun coming to Kings Heath soon…”

As part of the Almighty Blighty campaign, the Kings Heath BID is also planning various competitions, events and activities for local residents and businesses over the summer months, with bunting on display in business windows throughout June.
