Purposeful beauty

Birmingham woman aims for Miss England success.

“I have suffered a lot with bullies throughout my lifetime so Miss England is a big confidence boost for me. I just want to help other young women know they aren’t alone in what they are going through.”

Tia Burke, 21, a Recruitment Admin Assistant from the Birmingham is a winner of the Semi-Heat 5 competition and has now has been invited to compete at the Miss England semi-final at Kelham Hall on 11th June.

Before the big day Tia is encouraged to promote herself and the competition to gain the public vote, as well as to raise funds for the Miss World charity Beauty with a Purpose, now an integral part of the competition. This will give her an advantage as the girls who either raise the most for charity, gain the most publicity or gain the most public votes will automatically go through to the the Miss England Grand Final in Southport on 19th-21st July.

The public vote will begin on the 1st June at 12 noon. Landline and text voting information will be shown on the website nearer to the date.

The semi-finalists will be invited to participate in an eco fashion round, where contestants are invited to create an outfit made from recycled materials, and compete for the title of Miss Silk Powder which will fast track one girl to the Grand Final. Finally the girls will do a presentation in their eveningwear before the final results are announced.

“The competition is about being beautiful inside and out; we are not just looking for a pretty face,” says Miss England national director Angie Beasley.

In the merantime, Tia will be hosting a fund-raising event at Northfield Conservative Club on 4th June. There will be karaoke, raffle and a disco with entry £3 and all proceeds will go to the Miss World charity Beauty With a Purpose.
