West Midlands Police football unit signs up for Great Birmingham Run.

The West Midlands Police football unit has signed up for the Morrisons Great Birmingham Run on 18th October, and challenged six West Midlands football clubs to do the same.

The West Midlands police hopes teams from Aston Villa FC, Birmingham City FC, Coventry City FC, Walsall FC, West Bromwich Albion FC, and Wolverhampton Wanderers FC will be joining them around the 13.1-mile course.

Inspector Howard Lewis-Jones, whose team is responsible for policing Premier League and football league matches across the West Midlands, said: “We thought it would be interesting to bring the clubs together to compete in a different context to football! It’s a great opportunity to indulge everyone’s competitive spirit and fundraise for some great causes – may the best team win!”

The football unit team are training hard for the event and looking forward to the day. Howard Lewis-Jones added: “There’s a real mix of running ability within our team. One member is aiming for a time of an hour and three quarters, whilst the rest of us are aiming for around two hours – we’ve all done a half marathon before so we know what to expect.”
