This month saw Brindleyplace achieve record footfall over a single day thanks to the Birmingham Chilli Festival, proving the spicy event really is the hottest in the city.
The family-friendly event attracted just under 22,500 people to Brindleyplace on Saturday 19th September, with many attracted by the infamous chilli eating competition which, for the second year running, saw Lou Witterick from Solihull (pictured) crowned champion.

Alex Perrins, Marketing Executive at Brindleyplace, said: “This year marks the 20th anniversary of Brindleyplace, and what better way to celebrate than having a record number of people visit the estate?

“The Birmingham Chilli Festival was a great event with many visitors taking advantage of the large array of chilli food and drink products on offer, as well as enjoying the live entertainment from musicians and street performers. This was the fifth annual Birmingham Chilli Festival and it’s fantastic to see it continuing to grow and attract more and more people from across the city and beyond.”

Birmingham Chilli Festival rounded off a hugely successful summer for Brindleyplace. More than two million people visited the destination between May and September thanks to the array of summer events, including the two week Outdoor Film Festival, Dragonboat Festival, Wimbledon screening, Sunday Brunch Big Band, live music and monthly local produce markets.

Brindleyplace also enjoyed a successful summer in terms of fundraising, with £64,966 donated to Birmingham-based blood cancer charity, Cure Leukaemia to fund specialist research nurses at the Centre for Clinical Haematology at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and across the Midlands.

Alex added: “Thanks to the recent announcement that Argentinian restaurant CAU and the popular Zizzi’s Italian will be opening their doors at Brindleyplace, as well as the continuing success of the existing businesses at Brindleyplace, we’re sure that the estate will continue to attract record numbers, especially as the countdown to Christmas begins.”

In addition to being a top leisure destination that is home to 26 restaurants, cafes and bars, the National SEALIFE Centre Birmingham, Crescent Theatre and Ikon Gallery, Brindleyplace is also home to 10,000 employees that work across the 11 office buildings at the estate. Companies based at Brindleyplace include Deutsche Bank, Bilfinger GVA and RBS.
