Pop goes art

New string to the bow of Birmingham musician.

The Havill & Travis gallery in Harborne are presenting #POP! an exhibition of work by the artist and prolific songwriter, composer & lyricist Brian Travers – founder member, brass & string arranger and saxophonist with UB40. The exhibition celebrates the pop art culture of 1960’s NYC through to the 21st century and its enormous influence on contemporary popular culture.

Brian has spent over 35 years touring with UB40 and has sold over 120 million records, had 40 top 30 hits and is currently on a world tour promoting Getting Over The Storm, the band’s latest album.

Brian studied at Moseley School of Art in Birmingham. After twenty years residing in the Worcestershire countryside he has moved back to Moseley , where he is currently painting abstract canvases, Perspex sheets and stainless steel; creating painted glass and ceramic objet d’art.

#POP! is a culmination of his latest work and can perhaps be best summed up through one of Brian’s favourite quotes: “I’m trying to express my feelings NOT illustrate them!” (Jackson Pollock)
