Robin’s blues

There’s high quality blues coming up at the Robin in the next couple of weeks.

Tuesday sees the arrival of singer Dana Fuchs, a lady whose stage presence and powerful voice has seen her compared to Janis Joplin, who she played in the off-Broadway production Love, Janice. More than just an imitator, though, Dana has recorded a string of albums including last year’s live release, Songs From the Road.

The following night, Wednesday 20th May, has Paul Lamb playing with his band the Detroit Breakdown. Not to be confused with his British harp-playing namesake, this Paul Lamb is a hard-rocking guitarist from Detroit who fuses the blues with a modern edge that sees him play with such notables as Walter Trout and Peter Green as he regularly toured the States and Europe.

That’s followed by a best of British double header on Friday 22nd May with two of the country’s most durable bands returning to a familiar haunt.

Dr Feelgood and Eddie & the Hot Rods both emerged from the Canvey Island breeding ground for blues rockets in the early seventies, helping to turn the sparks of pub rock into a fully-fledged fire by 1977. Since then they’ve both had chart hits, toured the world, gone through numerous line-up changes and still kept audiences satisfied wherever they play.
