Birmingham Royal Ballet head to Japan for three week tour.

On Monday 20th April over ninety members of Birmingham Royal Ballet flew out of the city’s airport with Emirates to commence a three week tour of Japan.

The departure marked the first time in fifteen years that the Birmingham based, world renowned company have flown out of their home city airport thanks to the international connections now offered by Birmingham International Airport and Emirates.

Those making the journey to the Far East include dancers, artistic staff, technicians, conductors, costume, wigs and shoes departments, physiotherapists and many others who represent the Birmingham brand abroad.

Two years in the planning, the first international tour for the Company since April 2013 will see the Midlands based ballet troupe perform in three cities across the southern region of Japan. From 26th April to 3rd May the tour will include dates in Japan’s capital city of Tokyo, plus performances in Nagoya and Nishinomiya from 6th to 9th May.

Promoted by NBS Performing Arts Foundation based in Tokyo, the tour highlights two of the Company’s much-admired works from its varied repertory. The classical favourite in Sir Peter Wright and Galina Samsova’s Swan Lake and David Bintley’s stunning Cinderella will be performed in some of Japan’s finest theatres. This will be the first time the Company have toured to Japan since May 2011.
