BUPA Great Birmingham Run set to be biggest ever

22,000 runners expected for charity event.

As high numbers of entries stream in every day, organisers of this year’s Bupa Great Birmingham Run are predicting it will be the biggest ever in the half marathon’s seven year history.

An impressive 17,000 runners have already signed up for the 13.1 mile run on October 19th, including a record number of entries for both the Business Challenge and Junior and Mini races.

Organisers hope to beat the record 20,000 runners who took part in the 2013 run, which reached capacity a week before the event. Although entries for the 2014 run have been increased to 22,000, however, organisers are advising would-be entrants to sign up now to avoid disappointment.

David Hart, Communications Director for the Bupa Great Birmingham Run, said: “There is still time to join in the fun, but following the success of the Bupa Great North Run we have seen a noticeable surge in entry levels over the last few days. We’d urge anyone who wants to guarantee they’ll be at the start line next month to register now; if daily entry levels continue at their current rate, we will hit capacity before the end of the month.”

  1. THIS WILL BE A VERY PROFITABLE EVENT FOR BUPA in view of the number who will end up with chronic foot/ankle/knee/hip problems due to overstraining over a 12 miles “health” run. If most people routinely even walked less than half that distance it might be a different matter, but that wouldn’t make any money for a corporation!

Meanwhile I’ll stick to “dangerous” cycling myself.
