Top Birmingham chef dished up recipes for runners

Bupa Great Birmingham Runners can also dine at a discount.

Opus at Cornwall Street chef director David Colcombe, has created a range of runners’ recipes designed to stimulate, motivate and replenish the appetites of runners taking on the Bupa Great Birmingham Run this October.

‘Carbs Re-loaded’ is a selection of healthy, flavoursome meals put together by the award-winning chef; offering a balance of essential carbohydrates, protein and fats needed for optimal running performance.

David was joined at the launch of the recipes by ex England cricketer, Ashley Giles, who is supporting The Brain Tumour Charity runners, and Birchfield Harriers athlete Jade Surman.

David said: “Eating healthily and sensibly is especially important when you’re training for something like a half marathon, so I’ve created these recipes to give runners the boost they need, before and after training. These are not recipes for a professional kitchen but quick and easy dishes anyone can create at home ¬– I’ve chosen everyday ingredients, low in fat, gluten-free, high in magnesium, fibre and protein.”

Ashley commented: “The nature and look of nutrition in sport has changed hugely over the last 20 years; when I started my career in cricket, nearly everything we ate had chips with it. Nowadays, everything we put into our bodies is measured, checked and weighed because it’s an important part of giving your performance edge.”

David Hart, communications director for the Bupa Great Birmingham Run, added: “With just nine weeks until the event, entrants will be putting in the hard miles as they prepare for their half marathon challenge. Diet is an important part of the preparation and these creative recipes created by David will be great fun to try.”

Opus is also offering every entrant to the Bupa Great Birmingham Run a 20% discount voucher at each of their venues, which they will receive with their entry number.
