Local band to launch new release at Yardbird

Funk poppers Cantaloop will showcase their new single Avalanching at an exclusive launch event in Birmingham this June.

During a show at Birmingham’s Yardbird Jazz Club on June 13th, Cantaloop will perform Avalanching live for the first time ahead of its official release t here days later. And the duo will also give the new single a London launch when they perform at London’s Brixton Jamm with Craig Charles on Saturday June 19th.

The pre-release of Avalanching has already been marked by airplay on BBC Radio 6 and already the single has received a host of positive reviews with national music website Hit The Floor Magazine calling it “clever, angelic and admiring” and describing the single as something that is “far too good for sharing.”

The melancholy lament tells the story of one of Cantaloop’s founding members who lost his life to cancer last year. He left a footprint on the people and family he knew and Avalanching is Cantaloop’s own way of celebrating his memory and his legacy. The track hop, skips, and waltzes through his life. The last stand blows from the trumpet, signaling the death of his lullaby, are a touching show of friendship and the impact he still has on the group today.

A duo that has already earned itself a loyal and modest fan base throughout the length and breadth of the UK after sharing tours previously with the likes of the Fun Lovin’ Criminals and Del La Soul, Cantaloop decided that two launches for Avalanching would give fans everywhere a central location in which to celebrate the and hear the new single. While London will provide a central location for fans to hear the single performed live, the Birmingham date will act as a homecoming for the duo.

Justin Metti of Cantaloop said he was looking forward to making Avalanching readily available for fans with the two launch events. “We are really proud of our new single and it really does demonstrate how far we have come as artists,” he said. “We can’t wait to perform the song in front of our fans in both London and Birmingham. We’ve performed at the Yardbird in Birmingham before and we always have a fantastic time there, and we can’t wait to perform alongside Craig Charles who will be another great name to add to our list of friends.”

Avalanching is released on June 16th 2014 and will be available to download from iTunes.
