Terry Wills can’t wait for the end of Albion’s season.
At last the slowly increasing agony is over. Together along with other Baggies devotees I can in due course renew my season ticket knowing that the finest teams in the Greed League will be turning out at the Hawthorns, as opposed to the likes of Millwall, Watford and Blackpool. We’ve escaped the drop thanks to the other relegation candidates conveniently managing to either lose their games, or as in the case of Norwich, failing to win at Stamford Bridge.
An unlikely prospect at the best, and now the Canaries would need a 17 goal advantage in their favour on the last day, as unlikely as Jeremy Peace handing over untold millions to who’s eventually chosen to be installed in the Hawthorns hot seat.
It was a case of television watching and agonising. Chelsea huffed and puffed, Norwich held on, so it was off to the Stadium of Light to see if we could grab the point to ensure the ‘automatic’ relegation saving point.
Least said about that the better. A shocking performance, a 2-0 defeat and a Sunderland victory that enabled them to eclipse even Albion’s Great Escape. Pepe Mel’s stint at the Hawthorns is surely over. Wheel in the next victim.
The final game of the season and it’s Stoke (bogey team) City complete with Peter Odemwingie at the Hawthorns. This in itself is sure to increase tension between both players and supporters, and despite the knowledge that in theory, the outcome doesn’t matter, it does. An Albion win and three points, plus Villa, Hull, and Sunderland all losing, would at least see Mel signing off with a flourish before he makes a reported return to Sunny Spain.
Dream on Terry! Based on the recent wretched displays I cannot see it happening despite the inborn thought that they might – I did say MIGHT-give fans something, anything, to make us feel things can only get better before the start of next season. For sure if they don’t it will again be a case of struggling to retain a place in the Greed League.
Over too you Jeremy. Only if you succeed in recruiting a new Head Coach/manager with a magic touch, in addition to investing heavily in new quality players, can Albion fans catch a glimpse
of light at the end of a very dark tunnel. But for all that…
