World music, ballet and the chance to be a stand-up, all before the end of January.

World music fans are in for a treat when fun theatrical percussion group Glamba visit Artrix on Saturday 25thJanuary. The group will be performing their unique blend of Brazilian, African and World beats using a wide range of instruments from traditional Samba drums through to electronic drums, congas, dustbins, saucepans and even a kitchen sink!

The show features multi-media effects and contains a diverse range of art forms including dance, vocals, audio-visual and a tantalizing mix of percussive rhythms. This is very much a family show suitable for all ages, and audience participation is a key factor audience clapping, stomping, in-seat and on-stage participation are a key part of the performance.

Then there’s the chance to see one of the most popular Romantic ballets of all time on Monday 27th January 2014. As part of the Royal Ballet Live season, Artrix will be screening Giselle, a tale of betrayal, supernatural spirits and a love that transcends death. This production, which has been cited by national art critics as one of the cultural highlights of 2014, stars Natalia Osipova as Giselle and the world-famous British-Cuban dancer Carlos Acosta as Albrecht.

Would-be comedians have a golden opportunity to make their dreams a reality by joining a 5-week comedy workshop starting on 27th January at Artrix. In the company of aspiring local comedians, participants will have five weeks of intensive ‘write and rehearse’ workshops to build skills and bolster confidence. Led by local comedian Theo Theobald, the course will culminate in a performance in front of a live audience so students can confront their stand-up demons!
