The first of a bumper list of new dates announced for the city centre’s premier venues.

JAZZLINES – EMPIRICAL WITH THE BENYOUNES QUARTET

The MOBO Award-winning four-piece (sax, vibraphone, bass and drums) return to the city, accompanied by a string section, perform an explosive evening of experimental music at the CBSO Centre on 18th January.

JAZZLINES – TROYKA

Town Hall & Symphony Hall’s dynamic strand of jazz programming across the city continues with a gig by the cool multi-textural three-piece London band at the Hare & Hounds on 30th January.

JAZZLINES – BB&C: TIM BERNE / JIM BLACK & NILS CLINE

The trio – made up of a New York saxophonist, downtown drummer and Wilco guitarist – produce an incredible avant-garde jazz, skronk rock and heavy metal experience at the CBSO Centre on 14th February.

GALA OPENING CONCERT OF THE ANGLO-RUSSIAN YEAR OF CULTURAL EXCHANGE 2014

The UK’s magnificent Symphony Hall welcomes Russia’s Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra of Moscow Radio to Symphony Hall on 22nd February to officially launch a year of celebrations between the two countries.

BETH NIELSEN CHAPMAN

The Texan singer-songwriter – whose music has been performed by Willie Nelson, Bette Midler and Faith Hill – returns to Birmingham Town Hall on 28th February for an evening of music from her new album, Uncovered.

The Bristol quartet, featuring Portishead’s rhythm section (Jim Barr and Clive Deamer), deliver their spellbinding jazz-rock in one of Birmingham’s best independent venues, the Hare & Hounds, on 6th March.

SALSA CELTICA

The band of international Salseros and Celtic musicians, who produce a collision of Latin, Scottish and Irish folk, open their tour in support of fifth album The Tall Islands at Birmingham Town Hall on 6th March.

The Grammy-nominated Californian jazz vocalist, songwriter and actor – signed to the prestigious US label Blue Note – makes a hotly-anticipated debut at Birmingham Town Hall on 18th March.

Jazzlines present Mercury-nominated fearless experimental jazz innovators Pete Wareham, Mark Lockheart, Tom Herbert, Leafcutter John and Seb Roachfordon 27th March at the Hare & Hounds.

The X Factor favourite plays a ten-date tour at ‘very special hand-picked venues’ including Symphony Hall on 27th March to showcase her upcoming second studio album Freedom, due for release on Monday 2nd December
