Jewellery Quarter raises over £7,800 for Macmillan

Combined effort for cancer fundraiser.

Businesses and residents from across the Jewellery Quarter have raised over £7800 for Macmillan Cancer Support as part of the charity’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

Ambitious plans to encourage everyone in the area to join together and collect the monies raised to make one overall donation was hatched back in July by the Jewellery Quarter Development Trust and estate agency Maguire Jackson.

Since then, over 30 businesses signed up to either host a coffee morning or donate prizes to a raffle to help raise money and present the charity with the ‘Jewellery Quarter’s Biggest Cheque’. Superheroes and villains, serving wenches and fairytale characters combined with great coffee and cake were just a few of the activities which proved to be the recipe of success.

Macmillan Cancer Support is a fantastic charity and we have been overwhelmed by the time and effort of everyone involved and the generosity of those who attended the events,” says Philip Jackson, director at Maguire Jackson.

“Prior to the day volunteers pounded the streets to help raise awareness and it worked.  Cancer touches almost all of us, directly or indirectly through friends and family affected by the disease and we know the funds we have raised will make a real difference to someone’s life. We have now set the target and next year will be bigger and better.

To celebrate their success, representatives from across the Jewellery Quarter gathered at St Paul’s Church to officially hand over the cheque “The Macmillan coffee morning is always a success but to receive a cheque which incorporates the work of so many is great,” says Natalie Bridge, a fundraising manager at Macmillan. “This donation will enable Macmillan to continue to reach individuals who need our support and improve their lives.”
