Free family workshops at The Public

This October half-term, families from across the Black Country are invited to take part in a number of free workshops at West Bromwich arts centre, The Public.

Throughout the activity-filled week, 28th October -2nd November, visitors will be able to have fun making short films, take part in a nationwide drawing day, join in with a day-long Diwali celebration and enjoy a children’s theatre performance featuring puppetry, live music and storytelling.

On Monday 28th October, families will be invited to take part in ‘The Big Draw’, a worldwide drawing event connecting people of all ages with museums, spaces, artists – and each other.  From 11am–3pm beginners and experts alike will be able to join in with free workshop, Giant, Fantastic, Colourful Drawing Day and help create hundreds of individual works of art.

Youngsters will be able to explore the fascinating world of programming on Wednesday 30 October, and learn how to play music, make sounds and play games using all sorts of wacky objects.  With homemade controllers ranging from fruit to body parts, The Public’s team of experts will be on hand to help you have loads of fun creating unique works of art.

At 1pm and 3pm on 30th October, one of the UK’s most loved puppet theatre companies, Freehand Theatre, will performing, Who’s Been Sitting in My Chair – a delightful and playful interpretation of a well-known tale.  Packed full of live music and storytelling, the magical performance will be the suitable for children aged 3-7.

October half-term will also see the return of The Public’s ever popular den building workshop.  Taking a spooky twist on Friday 1st November during Deadly Halloween Dens, youngsters will be presented with the challenge of creating the scariest den in West Bromwich.

To celebrate Hindu festival Diwali, on Saturday 2nd November the Black Country venue will be hosting a special Celebration Day.  Throughout the day the whole community will be invited to join in with free dance performances and family activities themed around the Festival of Light.
