Comfortably Numb

After watching Blues beaten at Burnley, Andy Munro feels the end of the road is nigh.

Pink Floyd’s masterpiece,’Comfortably Numb,’ sums up my current state post Carling Cup/Premier League/Europa Tour. The enjoyment of those past exploits continue to comfort me as I lose all sense of the feeling associated with the enjoyment of watching the Blues. It seems that we’re reaching the bottom of the barrel (and the Championship) with no light at the end of the tunnel – a tunnel that would make a normal sized one look like a mere underpass.

To paraphrase a saying, you get what you don’t pay for and the likes of Adeymi and Novak are patently playing in a dvision above their station. However, at least the players can’t be faulted for effort even if they lack skill and confidence. Young lads like Reece Brown are a credit but they aren’t a Trevor Francis magic pill. While Lee Clark has tried every formation short of the Red Arrows it’s patently obvious that it’s the players that make formations and we haven’t got the players. You can’t blame them as generally they are giving their all and it’s also difficult to blame the manager in these circumstances.

The only people that you can blame are staying a continent away, hoping and grimly hanging on, to find some gullible countrymen whilst the club rots. On the depressometer it probably ranks with the days of Ken Wheldon and whilst the light bulbs may still be in place this time there are precious few lights on.

Burnley are a decent side, no world-beaters but Blues beaters they certainly are. We are now at best a Championship club alongside the Ipswichs and Forests of this world who are long past their glory days. The question is whether we will now slip down that path previously trod by Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday and Southampton and currently trod by the Wolves. At this point it seems more than likely.

Roll on the return of Ziggy, not only because he might spark some revival but more importantly he comes from the land of Barry Fry – a bumbling and occasionally lethal giant who can bring a smile to the crowd and the sort of player Bazza would have indulged in. To quote the Blues’ songsmith , Harvey Andrews, “Come wind, rain, sleet and snow , family tradition says I have to go” and probably that’s all that’s presently keeping me from putting my feet up in my lounge.
